back to the action

After some very sloppy play, where I'd repeatedly pledged to stop playing past a time when I was enjoying it and then repeatedly failed to do so, I'd taken a little break from poker. Steve was on holiday too so I didn't have chatting to him while he was playing or reading his blog to prompt me to play.

With him being back, I've had a couple more sessions and so far things are going pretty well. In fact I've just come off my best single session so far! I've just left the table with $11.00, a $6 profit.
The majority of my winnings came in two consecutive hands, both of which turned in full houses for me.

Game #6228460479 starts.

Looking back, I'm not sure whether I undersold the first one. My thought at the time was to let the other guy think I didn't have too much and let him do the betting for me so I could nail him at the river. I bet the pot, but perhaps I should have put in even more.
As for the second hand, revisiting it I've just realised I pretty much fluked my way through it. The raise on the turn was maybe a very silly move given that at that point I was behind to anyone with a ten, I think I was just lucky that lieberengel was short stacked, and that one of my 10 outs hit on the river.

So, anyone like to voice an opinion on my play, feel free.

Mr Clubbs, sadly I have a large array of negative comments on how you played these which I'm going to explain and how to avoid it in the future.

Hand 1. Call preflop and on flop are fine as they encourage action and there's nothing obvious which can hurt you. So up to that point it is all good.

Your play on the turn is horrendous, honestly awful and please never ever play a hand like this again. You are now faced with flush and straight draws and are bet weakly into. You HAVE to raise to get value and ensure that you are not letting a draw in cheap. There is no situation which you don't raise here and it should be a raise to at least .65 absolute minimum. Count how many cards may scare you and realise that the ONLY option is raising. His play throughout the hand is inexcusable but ignore that, if you play hands like that regularly you will not make much and will encounter a lot more 'bad beats' which you'll have actively invited through passive play.

Hand 2. This one is just horrible, even more so than hand 1. The call pre-flop is high but although it is a nice flop it is fraught with danger - any 8 any 10 and 9 clubs -15 outs which means that on the next card about 35% of the time you will be playing slightly scared. You HAVE to raise and make it big - especially with 5-6 players in the hand. If someone has 8,10 you accept it and get stacked. Again you have invited a 'bad beat'. Anyway it has to be a raise - probably a check raise if in early position. As for the raise on the turn (a call is fine) that is awful but I think you know that. You've ended up putting most of the money in whilst behind and got lucky on the river.

I'm genuinely not trying to be negative about your win but if you want this more often with less sucky draws then you have to recognise when your hand is under threat and make people pay to see the next card. Hope you can see the logic in what I'm saying and it is meant to be constructive
